Serves: 4

Instructions

  • 1 package (8 oz.) jack & annie’s shaved steak
  • 1 Cup Soy Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tbsp Mirin (rice wine)
  • 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Cracked Black Pepper
  • 1 Small Asian Pea (about 6 oz.) peeled, cored, and chopped (or 1 sweet apple such as gala)
  • 1/2 Small Yellow Onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tsp Fresh Ginger, peeled
  • Garnish
    • 1 Spring Onion’s Greens, sliced
    • Toasted Sesame Seeds

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor, except the shaved steak. Blend until smooth, then strain if desired.
  2. Mix the shaved steak with the sauce and let it marinate for a few minutes. As the steak marinates, it will also thaw. Separate the pieces and ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce. It’s okay if the pieces break apart.
  3. Heat a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add oil and swirl to coat the pan evenly. Add the marinated steak to the pan and chop it with a spatula as it cooks. Once the steak is browned and hot, divide it and serve over rice. Garnish with spring onion greens and toasted sesame seeds.
  4. Optional Step: After cooking the steak, pour any remaining sauce into the pan and reduce it until it turns dark brown and thickens slightly. Pour this over your dish before garnishing.
