Serves: 4
Instructions
- 1 package (8 oz.) jack & annie’s shaved steak
- 1 Cup Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar
- 2 Tbsp Mirin (rice wine)
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- 1/4 tsp Cracked Black Pepper
- 1 Small Asian Pea (about 6 oz.) peeled, cored, and chopped (or 1 sweet apple such as gala)
- 1/2 Small Yellow Onion, roughly chopped
- 2 Garlic Cloves
- 1 tsp Fresh Ginger, peeled
- Garnish
- 1 Spring Onion’s Greens, sliced
- Toasted Sesame Seeds
Preparation
- Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor, except the shaved steak. Blend until smooth, then strain if desired.
- Mix the shaved steak with the sauce and let it marinate for a few minutes. As the steak marinates, it will also thaw. Separate the pieces and ensure they are evenly coated with the sauce. It’s okay if the pieces break apart.
- Heat a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add oil and swirl to coat the pan evenly. Add the marinated steak to the pan and chop it with a spatula as it cooks. Once the steak is browned and hot, divide it and serve over rice. Garnish with spring onion greens and toasted sesame seeds.
- Optional Step: After cooking the steak, pour any remaining sauce into the pan and reduce it until it turns dark brown and thickens slightly. Pour this over your dish before garnishing.
