Serves: 2
Instructions
- 1 package (8 oz.) jack & annie’s shaved steak
- 4 Slices of Sourdough Bread
- 2-3 Slices of Cheese (pepper jack, gouda, or any other meltable cheese)
- 2-3 Tbsp mayonnaise (depending on your preference)
- 2 Tbsp neutral oil (avocado, canola, vegetable)
- Optional: 1 small onion, cut into strips, 2 Tbsp oil
Preparation
- Optional Step: Heat a pan to medium-low heat and add oil and onions. Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they caramelize to a golden-brown color and soften, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add oil. Once hot and shimmering, add the shaved steak slices and cook until browned and heated through about 6-8 minutes. Remove from the pan and place cheese on top of the hot steak to melt slightly while you prepare the bread.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low. Butter one side of a slice of bread and place it buttered side down in the pan. Spread mayo on the other side.
- Add the steak, melted cheese, and onions (if using) on top of the bread slice in the pan. Spread mayo on another slice of bread and place it on top of the steak and cheese, with the mayo side facing inwards. Butter the top side of this slice of bread.
- Allow the bread to brown, about 3-4 minutes. Flip the sandwich and brown the other side, about 3-4 minutes more. Continue this process until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden to dark golden brown, about 10-12 minutes in total.
